School Council – Annual General Meeting
The AGM for our school council will be held next month on Tuesday, April 9th at 6:30pm in the Learning Commons.
The AGM is the meeting where new council members are elected. Every school faces the same challenges with recruiting council members. Our school is extremely lucky to have a dedicated group of parents who have been working hard to support the school. The council provides invaluable support to various events and activities throughout the school year. For example, weekly fun lunches would not happen without the council and volunteers organizing and serving the orders. Field trips throughout the year are supported by financial contributions to pay for busing. A variety of purchases are made to support classrooms including laptop carts, art equipment, sports equipment, and learning software subscriptions.
Each year, as students move on to high school, their parents go with them, and this year is no exception. We know that next year we will be looking for more parental support as key council members move on. The time commitment for council members is not too great; we meet eight times a year and all work is shared by a team to lighten the load.
If you are interested in supporting your child as a member of the school council please reach out to Pat Wiebe, Council Chair, at cngscouncilchair@gmail.com or April Boutin, Parent Association Chair, at parentassoc.cngs@gmail.com.
Green Solutions Club is Back!
The Green Solutions Club is a dedicated group of grade 6s and 7s who make great efforts to keep our school and surrounding area clean. The club is open to anyone who wants to join and operates every day during the early lunch from 12:00-12:20pm.
Come to room M110 this Tuesday to join up and help out!
Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch – Tuesdays & Wednesdays
We are truly fortunate to offer Healthy Hunger to order special lunches each week. Please register and order on the Healthy Hunger website. This service is an important fundraiser for the school and raises over $10,000 each year. The funds go toward multiple initiatives such as sponsoring student leadership initiatives, field trips, and supplemental learning resources. We are always looking for parent volunteers to serve Fun Lunch. Please reach out if you can help and we will connect you with the coordinator, Nicelle DePatie.
Next Year Planning – Option Courses
Each spring, we survey students and parents to plan for option courses. We try to strike a balance between student interest and manageable numbers within courses. Unfortunately, if the number of students requesting a particular course is low, we are unable to offer the course within the timetable.
We will be sharing out further information during April. Please review the variety of courses with your child and indicate interest by completing the course survey.
