Weekly Message - April 6-10

This message is posted a day earlier than normal because the school will be closed on Friday, April 3 for Good Friday. The school will reopen on Monday, April 6.

Despite the recent pattern of snowfall, the signs of spring are truly upon us! The snow is melting, the days are getting longer, and with the warmer weather comes the buzz of activity around the school. Our badminton season is now underway, and our teams are working hard, preparing for exciting competitions with other schools. We look forward to cheering them on!

School Council – Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting for both the Captain Nichola Goddard School Council and the Parent Association will take place on April 22, 2026, at 6:30 PM in the Learning Commons. All parents are members of both groups and are encouraged to attend.

Each year, positions become available on both the School Council and Parent Association executives. In simple terms, the Council focuses on decision-making to support the school, while the Parent Association manages the funds raised to support those decisions. Both groups rely on parent volunteers to continue their work, and we encourage you to consider getting involved.

This year, the Parent Association is seeking a new Chairperson. The current Chairperson has reached the three-year term limit and will be stepping into the Vice Chair position. The Chairperson leads meetings in partnership with the Vice Chair, and helps oversee record-keeping, budgeting, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting, while supporting fundraising efforts.

If you want more information about being involved and supporting the school, please feel free to email either cngcouncilchair@gmail.com or parentassoc.cngs@gmail.com.

Thank you for your time and Consideration,

April Boutin & Nancy Wong (CNGSPA Chairperson & CNGSC Chairperson)

Next Year Options

Starting April 13, 2026, we will have students begin to select option courses for next year. On the Complementary Courses page of our school website, we have posted the list of options we are looking at offering next year along with a description of each course. Please take the time to look through this with your child(ren) this week to help them decide what options they would like for next year. The final decision on which courses are offered is based on total number of requests to create balanced class sizes in each option course.

Band Information for Grade 6 students

Mr. Willms is in the process of meeting with all grade 6 students to discuss the numerous opportunities they have in our music program for grade 7. These include Band, String Orchestra and Guitar.

Each of these are available to beginners and students with experience. When choosing band, students should select their preference of woodwinds or brass. If students are interested in percussion, they should choose either, noting that they will first demonstrate certain skills on a different instrument.

Questions are encouraged. Please email Mr. Willms directly with any queries. Klwillms@cbe.ab.ca

Music performance at Buffalo Rubbing Stone School Friday, April10

The Grade 8 Concert Band, Strings Class, Strings Club and Jazz Band will be performing at BRSS on Friday, April 10. Students are required to wear thei formal black concert attire for the day. We will all meet in the band room at 10:12 (beginning of period 3) and then walk to BRSS. Large instruments will be transported by truck. We expect to be back shortly after our regular Friday dismissal time.

Volunteer Appreciation – Thursday, April 23 (8:15am – 9:45am)

Please join us for our annual Volunteer Appreciation to recognize all the wonderful contributions you have made to our school community!  We will be providing morning snacks and an opportunity to mingle in our Learning Commons.  Please RSVP by Tuesday, April 21st to captainnicholagoddard@cbe.ab.ca if you can join us, and if there are any food allergies we should be aware of.  Thank you for all that you do!

Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch – Tuesdays & Wednesdays

Each week, the School Council offers Healthy Hunger as an easy way to order special lunches. Please register and order on the Healthy Hunger website. This opportunity is an important fundraising activity for the school that raises over $10,000 each year on average and gives students a chance to enjoy a variety of lunch options throughout the school year.

We have a dedicated group of amazing volunteers who are committed to helping on a regular basis. Without these wonderful parent volunteers, we might be unable to keep the program running but being able to share the workload with more people would be a huge asset. If you are able to help for an hour on Tuesday or Wednesday, please sign up here. Please contact Wilma Wong at cngsfunlunch@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Health Form to be Signed

All students received a copy of the consent form for parent/guardian to opt in or opt out of the Human Sexuality health module coming up in May.  Please ask your child for the form if you haven’t seen it yet.  If your child has lost their form or was absent on the day it was handed out, please have your child sign into the Health Google classroom.  A copy of the letter is there for you to print, sign, and send in with your child.

Community Pantry

In partnership with School Council, we are pleased to share the introduction of a new initiative at Captain Nichola Goddard School – our Community Pantry.

The Community Pantry has been created to support our school students and families by providing access to food and essential household items in a respectful, confidential, and judgment-free way. This pantry is available to all school families, and families are welcome to use it at any time, for any reason.

To help stock the pantry, we will be holding monthly collection weeks during the first week of every month. During these weeks, families who wish to participate are invited to donate:

  • Non-perishable food items
  • Self-care and personal hygiene items
  • Monetary donations

Our 2nd collection week will take place from April 6 - 10.

Participation in donation drives is always optional, and we appreciate any level of support our families can offer. Donations will directly support students and families within our school community.

Accessing the pantry is simple and private. Families can reach out to any trusted staff member to ask questions or request support.

There is no requirement to explain your circumstances, and all use of the pantry is kept confidential.

As this initiative grows, we hope to expand beyond our school to support the wider community of Panorama Hills.

If you have any questions, please contact the school office.

Thank you for being part of a caring and supportive school community.
