Weekly Message - September 30-October 4

It is turning out to be such a beautiful autumn; the changing colours of the leaves are amazing and the warm weather is so wonderful. We have four days of classes next week. Monday is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and the school will be closed on that day.

The first month of school is ending and things are well under way with extra-curricular activities. Our sports teams have had a great start to their seasons, and we are so proud of each of our athletes. Our soccer players and cross-country runners have earned the praise of parents from other schools for their exceptional conduct and sportsmanship. We are extremely fortunate to have such amazing students at Captain Nichola Goddard and are looking forward to continuing exemplary representation during the basketball season.

Basketball Season – Spectators and Fan Expectations

Basketball games are starting this week so it is timely to share a reminder of our fan expectations for the season: home games are open to students and parents of Captain Nichola Goddard, visiting fans must be accompanied by an adult and must remain with that adult. CNGS students are asked to leave the school whenever CNGS is not playing, allowing visiting spectators to watch their teams. Also, CNGS students are expected to act as gracious hosts and give up their seats for our school's guests.

CNGS students are only allowed to attend away games with a supervising adult.

E-Bike & E-Scooter Safety

This year we have an increased number of students coming to schools with electric bikes and scooters. It is important to review a few key points with students before they bring these expensive vehicles to school.

  • Helmets are a provincial requirement for anyone under 18 years when riding bicycles. There is no provincial law for helmets on e-scooters, but it is highly recommended due to the high speeds possible on these items.
  • It is a student’s responsibility to ensure their items are locked securely in the bike racks and scooter racks.
  • Bikes and scooters cannot be ridden on school grounds during the day. This means they can be ridden to the racks and locked up, but they can't be ridden around on the sidewalks, parking lot, or back field during lunch break.

Noon Supervision

If your child is in Grade 6 and stays at school for lunch, you must register them for noon supervision, fees will be added to MyCBE on or after October 14. Online registration is available at MyCBE. If you do not plan on regular use of lunchroom services but your child will remain at school from time to time, there are drop-in fees of $5/day. This drop-in fee is charged when a student not registered for the full-year program chooses to stay for lunch.

School Photos

School pictures are ready! To order, log in to your account on mylifetouch.ca or create an account using your student's student ID number.

All families can also log on and order a FREE digital Pictures2Protect Card. More information about the Pictures2Protect program can be found here.

Cross Country 2024 Season

Congratulations to all our cross-country team made up of over 50 athletes and Coaches Hunter, Legere, Miller, and Osicki! After many practices and three races with 996 athletes from 36 schools across North Calgary, the CNGS Cross Country team finished their season in fifth place! A notable mention to our grade eight boys who finished second in their category. Congratulations runners and thank you for representing us so well!

Winter Activity Day 2024 – December 4, 2024

We are excited to announce that CNG will be having its annual winter activity day again this year. All the details will come home to families in a letter, but please save the date of Dec 4. We also want to thank our School Council for agreeing to support the activity day by paying for the bussing for all our trips!  This is amazing because it reduces the price for all families as well as providing 3 free hiking trips so all students will be able to choose an activity.  Stay tuned for more details in October!

Fun Lunch 2024-25

Fun lunches are ready to order on the Healthy Hunger website

The School Council is excited to continue offering Healthy Hunger as a great fundraiser for CNGS!  It is an easy way to order special lunches while helping raise money for the school. A portion of each lunch purchased is given back to the School Council for school needs. Lunches will be offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. At this time, a few vendors are confirmed and set up in Healthy Hunger. More lunches will be added to future dates as vendors are confirmed.

Registering for an account will only take a few minutes. After creating your account, you can log in anytime throughout the school year to place your orders.

Please register on the Healthy Hunger website.  Please note that the cut-off for orders is five days before the lunch date.

Our first lunches will be on September 17 and 18. Please place your orders at least 5 days prior.

We are in constant need of volunteers to help make this program successful. Without parent volunteers, we might be unable to keep the program running. It is only 1 - 1 1/2 hours on a Tuesday or Wednesday and doesn't need to be every week. If you can help, please sign up here for the days you are available.

If you have any questions regarding the fun lunch program, please do not hesitate to contact Wilma Wong at cngsfunlunch@gmail.com

Thank you for your support!
