Weekly Message - March 3-7
Dear Parents, March is upon us, bringing with it a mix of exciting events and important transitions. As we navigate the end of volleyball season, Parent Teacher Conferences, Spring Break, and the change to Daylight Savings Time (Sunday, March 9th), we appreciate your continued support and partnership. Please take a moment to review this week's message for key updates and reminders.
Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch – Tuesdays & Wednesdays
Each week, the School Council offers Healthy Hunger as an easy way to order special lunches. Please register and order on the Healthy Hunger website. This opportunity is an important fundraising activity for the school that raises over $10,000 each year on average and gives students a chance to enjoy a variety of lunch options throughout the school year.
We have a dedicated group of amazing volunteers who are committed to helping on a regular basis. Without these wonderful parent volunteers, we might be unable to keep the program running but being able to share the workload with more people would be a huge asset. If you are able to help for an hour on Tuesday or Wednesday, please sign up here. please contact Wilma Wong at cngsfunlunch@gmail.com if you have any questions.
School Engagement Survey
Each year, we ask families to share their perspectives on our school development plan and our school budget and fees. This feedback helps us plan and make decisions for the following school year. We conduct surveys to gather feedback from families and the information gathered helps us plan for the coming year. Please take the time to share your thoughts on this year’s survey.
Next Year Planning – 2025-26 School Year
The CBE continues to experience significant increases in enrollment, and Captain Nichola Goddard will continue to be designated as a Closed status school.
Closed status means a school is at or exceeding the utilization rate and has reached student capacity. Closed status schools cannot accept transfers from students living outside the designated attendance area. Students who reside within the community of Panorama Hills continue to be admitted to the school. If you reside outside of Panorama Hills, you can determine your designated school using the CBE’s Find A School tool on the main website.
Class Assignments and Requests – Online submissions
Each year we work to create class groups that support each student’s learning.
If you have a request for your child’s class next year that has an educational basis, it will be considered. We welcome parent input as part of the process in developing class lists but the final decision rests with the school.
We try to maintain class cohorts moving from grade six to grade seven, and from grade eight to grade nine but that isn’t always possible; sometimes it is necessary to reorganize class groups based on numbers or student dynamics.
We have created an online form to record any requests. Please use the link to complete the form and provide information.
Additionally, if you are planning to move or transfer your child to a different school for the 2025-2026 school year, please contact the office at (403) 817-3300. Informing us of your plans will facilitate the smoothest transition possible.
Parent Teacher Conferences – Online Conferences
Please note that the Parent Teacher Conferences, scheduled for Thursday, March 20 (4:00-8:00pm) and Friday, March 21 (8:00am-2:00pm), are likely to be online. This adjustment is anticipated due to labour action by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE); if the CUPE strike ends before this date, the conferences may return to in-person. The booking system for these online conferences will open through MyCBE the week of March 10.
School Council Annual General Meeting – April 16
Next month, our April School Council meeting will be on Wednesday, April 16, and is the Annual General Meeting. We hope to elect next year’s council and association members, but we are short on several representatives. If you would be interested in helping us by joining council, we could really use your help. More details will be shared over the next few weeks, and we hope you will consider supporting the school as a member of council or the parents’ association.
If you have any questions, please contact either Pat Wiebe at cngscouncilchair@gmail.com or April Boutin at parentassoc.cngs@gmail.com.
