Weekly Message - June 8-12

It has been quite a week at CNGS. We started Monday uncertain about the weather and what it would mean for our planned activities, and things unfolded with mixed results. Our grade 8 field trip to Riverwatch was cancelled due to high water levels on the Bow River, and our planned flag football tournament could not go ahead because the field was still saturated from the rain. On the brighter side, the weather cooperated for our outdoor concert and again today for our annual sports day. Both were great events and students had a wonderful time.

June is always a full month, and this year is no exception. Teachers and students are working through the remaining outcomes across their Programs of Study, and our grade 6 and 9 students begin Provincial Achievement Tests on June 9. Specific test dates are listed in The Week Ahead section below.

We are also looking forward to our grade 9 farewell on June 24. The ceremony runs from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, followed by snacks and activities through 9:30 pm. Students should arrive at 6:00 pm for photos and procession organization. Gymnasium doors will open at 6:00 pm for families.

Next Year Information

The 2026-27 school calendar is live on our website and dates for events and activities are being added regularly. We will not be producing a printable calendar this year; the school website calendar will be our primary source of information. The first day of classes is Monday, August 31 at 8:05 am. Meeting locations for all students will be emailed to families the week before school begins.

Track and Field Meet — Monday, June 8

The divisional track meet takes place Monday, June 8 at Foothills Athletic Park. Athlete check-in is from 8:00 to 8:30 am, with the meet running until 4:30 pm.

All track athletes must join the Track Team Google Classroom. Competition day updates, including any cancellations, will be posted there Sunday evening or Monday morning. This is the only way coaches can share schedules and event details.

Athletes should come prepared for a full day outdoors: Phoenix shirt and athletic wear, running shoes, food, water, and warm layers, sun and rain protection, and bug spray. A blanket, book, or cards for downtime between events is a good idea.

Parents are welcome to watch. If you are taking your child home after their events, they must be signed out with a CNG teacher at the track. There is no return bus, so all athletes must be picked up at the end of the day.

The Track and Field fee can be paid through your MyCBE account or in cash at the office before the meet. Optional Track and Field t-shirts are available for $15 from the PE office.

Good luck to our track team. You represent CNG with excellence.

Learning Commons

All library books are due back to the Learning Commons by June 12. In-class novels currently in use for novel studies may remain with students, but all other checked-out books need to be returned by this date. Invoices will be issued for any books not returned after that point.
