Weekly Message - September 8-11
A very exciting first week at Captain Nichola Goddard School has ended and we are already building up to a variety of Terry Fox activities culminating in our annual run throughout the neighborhood on Friday, Sept. 18. We are very excited about our students' efforts so far. Fundraising is off to an amazing start; Captain Nichola Goddard School is currently the number one fundraising school in Alberta!
Don't forget, the school will be closed this Monday, Sept. 7 for Labour Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Update Student Information Online
There are important digital forms that need to be completed yearly in the parent portal of MyCBE, including the Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization forms. Please take the time to complete these by September 15th.
Student Entry to the School
The school is accessible to students at 7:50am every day and we are asking all students to enter the building through the front door. Any students who are participating in activities before school such as athletics or band rehearsals will be let into the building prior to the start of their activity.
Meet the Teacher
Our Meet the Teacher evening will take place from 6:30-7:30pm, this Wednesday, September 9. This will be an informal drop-in event, and we will post locations of teaching teams along with maps of the school in the front foyer of the school that evening. Please join us for a chance to meet your child’s teachers, and the informal structure will allow you to connect with multiple teachers if you have more than one child attending our school.
School Council & Parent Association
We will be hosting our first school council and parent association meeting for the school year on the following week, Wednesday, September 16. Please join us in the Learning Commons. Parent involvement through the School Council & Parent Association is a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents from our community and be involved in supporting your child’s school. The reason for having both a council and an association has to do with record keeping and managing fundraising. The groups work very closely together, often it is the same parents working in various roles, and provide key support for the school's operation.
Like most schools, we are always looking for more parents to help us. We are currently seeking a chairperson and a vice-chairperson for the Parent Association. These positions are open to any interested parents from our school community. If you are interested in helping out, we would love to chat with you. We meet 8 times a year and the work is shared with a group of very supportive parents. More information about Council & Association can be found on our school website in the Get Involved section
Terry Fox Run 2026
On September 18, CNG will be having our 14th annual Terry Fox event, and this one will include a whole school assembly and all our students out running on the course again together!
We are having a classroom fundraising race again with results being shared in the foyer. Cash donations will be accepted at lunch Tues-Thurs. Every homeroom teacher has set up an online fundraising page which can be emailed to family and friends. As a school we are also hoping to hit big fundraising checkpoints in an attempt to beat our money raised from last year. In the spirit of building school community, we are hosting 3 spirit days: Sept 2 was “Anything but a Waterbottle Day” and upcoming are Sept 9 Superhero Day and Sept 16 Purple and Gold Day.
The final piece of exciting news is Fred Fox will be coming to celebrate with us on Monday Sept 21. It will be a great chance to share with the Fox family our successes of this year’s Terry Fox run as well as get an insight into the life of Terry that only his family can share.
Photo Day is coming
Picture day is coming soon! Lifetouch will be at our school on Tuesday, Sept. 15, to take student photos. We have also scheduled the retake day in October so any students who are absent on the 15th will be able to have their picture taken on Oct. 7.

Phys Ed Attire
Please take a moment to check in with your child about their footwear for PE. To keep students safe and comfortable while being active, we ask that they wear running shoes or other athletic footwear. Crocs, sandals, and boots aren’t a good match for PE activities, as they can increase the risk of slips, sore joints, or injuries.
Students in grades 7–9 are expected to change their clothing for PE. Wearing comfortable clothes for activity not only makes it easier to move but also helps keep regular school clothes clean, especially when our field is muddy or when activities get messy.
We’ve noticed in this first week that many students feel better after changing into fresh clothes following PE. A quick change makes a big difference for comfort, confidence, and readiness to learn in their classroom classes.
We also have our school store open if they’d like to pick up some CNG gear!
