Weekly Message - September 9-13

Another exciting week at Captain Nichola Goddard School has ended and we are building up to a variety of Terry Fox activities culminating in our annual run throughout the neighborhood on Friday, Sept. 20. If you are around on that morning and see a large crowd of adolescents running through the community, stop and wave!

Update Student Information Online

There are important digital forms that need to be completed yearly in the parent portal of MyCBE, including the Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization forms. Please take the time to complete these by September 15th.

Entry to the School

The school is accessible to students at 7:50am every day and we are asking all students to enter the building through the front door. Any students who are participating in activities before school such as athletics or band rehearsals will be let into the building prior to the start of their activity.

Option Course changes

Students in grades seven to nine can begin requesting changes to their scheduled options starting this Monday, Sept. 9 and ending on Friday, Sept. 13. Forms will be available from the office and can be picked up by students before school, during nutrition or lunch break, and after school. It is not always possible to make the requested changes due to enrolment numbers or conflicts with other courses in students' schedules. Each request must be supported with a parent signature on the request form .

Meet the Teacher & School Council

Our Meet the Teacher evening will take place from 6:30-7:30pm, this Wednesday, September 11. This will be an informal drop-in event, and we will post locations of teaching teams along with maps of the school in the front foyer of the school that evening. Please join us for a chance to meet your child’s teachers, and the informal structure will let you be in contact with multiple grades if you have more than one child attending our school.

We will also be hosting our first school council meeting for the school year. Please join us in the Learning Commons after meeting with teachers. School Council is a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents from our community and be involved in supporting your child’s school.

Terry Fox Run 2024

On September 20, CNG will be having our 13th annual Terry Fox event, and this one will include a whole school assembly and all our students out running on the course again together!

Students are in a fundraising drive and can buy ballots for the chance to win prizes from our staff. Grade teams are building prize baskets filled with a variety of items. By purchasing a ballot, students are contributing to our whole school goal of $5000 for cancer research but also putting their name forward to win a fantastic prize. Money will go to the Terry Fox foundation and a winner will be drawn for each prize to be announced at our assembly! Students can purchase ballots at lunch all week ($2 for 1 ballot or $5 for 3 ballots) for the prize(s) of their choice!

Photo Day is coming

Picture day is coming soon! Lifetouch will be at our school on Tuesday, Sept. 17, to take student photos. We have also scheduled the retake day in October so any students who are absent on the 17th will be able to have their picture taken on Oct. 24.

Phys Ed Attire and Phoenix Spirit Wear

Phoenix Spirit Wear is available once again through our online store. The store is only open for a limited time. Orders must be placed by September 22. Wearing your Phoenix gear is a wonderful way to show your school pride and look good while you’re All students from grades 7-9 are required to change their clothing for PE class. Wearing comfortable clothes for PE class allows students to move better. Often our field is muddy and if a student falls and gets dirty, they have their regular clothing to change into. We have noticed in this first week of school that many of our students are also struggling with personal hygiene after being active in PE, so the ability to change into fresh clean clothes will help with how they smell and feel in their classroom classes.

Please also have a conversation with your child about their PE footwear. Students must have shoes on their feet in PE. Crocs, sandals, and boots do not provide your child with the protection and safety they need when active. These types of footwear often lead to injury or pain in joints for our kids.

Students can choose to bring in any of their own T-shirts, shorts, sweats, tights, track pants or they can access the school store that just opened!

Please browse the store and get your orders in! The store will close on Sept 22nd, and we cannot accept late orders.
