Weekly Message - April 13-17

We haven’t been very fortunate with the weather lately, but our fingers are crossed that spring is actually coming! Badminton teams have been selected and training is underway.

Energy will be building in the school over the next few weeks because we are very excited to welcome Terry Fox’s brother, Fred Fox, for and assembly at the end of April. Our school had a record-breaking fundraiser this year for the Terry Fox Foundation and Fred wanted to meet our students and extend his personal thanks for their efforts.

Staff Appreciation Dessert Buffet - April 23

Please join the CNGS Council in bringing sweet treats to thank our wonderful staff for staying late during parent-teacher conferences and for all that they do!

Please label your treats with allergens (dairy, gluten, nuts), and bring your items to the school office by 2:30 on Thursday, April 23. You are welcome to include notes of appreciation if you’d like.

The sign up is available here:

Traffic Safety

The weather seems to be improving in small steps and we believe spring is on the way! With the approach of better weather, we are seeing an increase in the number of students walking and riding to school. It is extremely important to watch out for students crossing the street and school parking lot before and after school. We have seen a recent increase in the number of vehicles entering the parking lot, making illegal u-turns, stopping in unsafe locations such as crosswalks, and blocking driveways.

Please consider dropping your child off a block or two away from the school and having them walk instead of adding to the traffic congestion. We all have a part to play in keeping students safe and that is easier for everyone when we choose safety over convenience.

Next Year Options

This week we will have students begin to select option courses for next year. On the Complementary Courses page of our school website we have posted the list of options we are looking at offering next year along with a description of each course and course fees. Please take the time to look through this with your child(ren) this week to help them decide what options they would like for next year. We do our absolute best to place students in their top courses and they will receive four of their five requests.

The final decision on which courses are offered is based on the total number of student requests for each course to create balanced class sizes in each option course. If there are not enough requests for a course, we will not offer it. We will meet with students affected and identify an alternative course once the final schedule is developed.

Volunteer Appreciation – Thursday, April 23 (8:15am – 9:45am)

Please join us for our annual Volunteer Appreciation to recognize all the wonderful contributions you have made to our school community!  We will be providing morning snacks and an opportunity to mingle in our Learning Commons.

Please RSVP by Tuesday, April 21 to captainnicholagoddard@cbe.ab.ca if you can join us. Please let us know by email if there are any food allergies we should be aware of.  Thank you for all that you do!

Health Form to be Signed

All students received a copy of the consent form for parent/guardian to opt in or opt out of the Human Sexuality health module coming up in May.  Please ask your child for the form if you haven’t seen it yet.  If your child has lost their form or was absent on the day it was handed out, please have your child sign into the Health Google classroom.  A copy of the letter is there for you to print, sign, and send in with your child.
