Weekly Message - September 22-26
Terry Fox Community Run
This week we celebrate the culmination of our Terry Fox events with our community run on Friday, September 26. We are excited to come together as a school, get out into the community, and show our school spirit in support of this important annual fundraiser.
Friday’s event will begin with a school-wide assembly, followed by a run or walk through the community. Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather and wearing footwear suitable for our 4 km course. Each student will also wear a sticker noting who they are running for which a meaningful way to honor someone in their lives who has fought, or is fighting, cancer.
Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we have already raised over $8,400 for cancer research. We are very proud to share that CNGS is currently ranked as the fourth highest fundraising school in Alberta and sixteenth in Canada! This is an incredible accomplishment, and we are grateful for the support of our families and students in carrying on Terry’s legacy.
A Visit from Sally Goddard
Today, September 19, our students had the privilege of hearing from Sally Goddard, mother of our school’s namesake, Nichola Goddard. Sally shared stories about Nichola’s childhood, her desire to serve her country, and the legacy she left behind. She also spoke about the difference between bravery and courage, encouraging our students to live their own lives with courage and in service to others.
It was a powerful and meaningful moment in our school year, offering our students a deeper connection to Nichola’s life and the values she embodied. Sally’s message was a powerful reminder of the values Nichola embodied — Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Courage (E.P.I.C.) — the same values we strive to live by every day at Captain Nichola Goddard School.
No School September 29–30
Please note there is no school for students on Monday, September 29 and Tuesday, September 30.
- Monday, September 29 is a non-instructional day.
 - Tuesday, September 30 the school will be closed in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Classes will resume at 8:05 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day Event
Captain Nichola Goddard School will mark Orange Shirt Day next week through some key learning opportunities. As a school community, we acknowledge and support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action, and we commit to connecting Indigenous perspectives in all areas of learning to build understanding, empathy and mutual respect. Students learn this through land-based learning and exploring what it means to be Treaty people.
We are encouraging students to mark this important work by wearing orange shirts on Friday, Oct. 3rd. We are committed to building a community where each student feels safe, welcome, valued, respected, and cared for every day. More information on Orange Shirt Day can be found here: www.orangeshirtday.org
Fun Lunch 2025-26
Fun lunches are ready to order on the Healthy Hunger website!
The School Council is excited to continue offering Healthy Hunger as a great fundraiser for CNGS! It is an easy way to order special lunches while helping raise money for the school. A portion of each lunch purchased is given back to the School Council for school needs. Lunches will be offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. At this time, a few vendors are confirmed and set up in Healthy Hunger. More lunches will be added to future dates as vendors are confirmed.
Registering for an account will only take a few minutes. After creating your account, you can log in anytime throughout the school year to place your orders.
Please register on the Healthy Hunger website. Please note that the cut-off for orders is five days before the lunch date.
We are in constant need of volunteers to help make this program successful. Without parent volunteers, we might be unable to keep the program running. It is only 1 - 1 1/2 hours on a Tuesday or Wednesday and doesn't need to be every week. If you can help, please sign up here for the days you are available.
If you have any questions regarding the fun lunch program, please do not hesitate to contact Wilma Wong at cngsfunlunch@gmail.com
Thank you for your support!
