Weekly Message - June 15-19

We are in the final weeks of the school year. Students in grades six and nine will finish writing their Provincial Achievement Tests this week, and then we will quickly enter the last week of the year. The final week of classes is June 22-26.

Track and Field Results

Our 120 student-athletes had a remarkable day at Monday's Track Meet, bringing home 8 of 16 banners, including the Grand Aggregate as overall champions out of eight schools from across the city. We could not be prouder of how they competed and how they carried themselves, supporting each other and showing genuine respect for officials, opponents, and the facility. What a way to represent Captain Nichola Goddard School. Congratulations to the whole team!

Provincial Achievement Testing – Gr. 6 & 9

Our grade six and nine students continue writing Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) this week. The dates and times of the tests are indicated in the Week Ahead section of this message. Preliminary test results will be shared on the report card, and finalized results will be shared with families in the fall.

Music Program

CBE instrument rentals are due back June 15. Please make sure to do a thorough cleaning of your instrument and case before returning it to school. Students will also do a thorough cleaning of their mouthpieces with Sterisol spray in the music classroom in the coming days.

Families must return any Long & McQuade or St. John’s rentals to the store no later than June 26, 2026. by the families renting them, unless you wish to continue renting.  If you have any questions, please ask Mr. Willms.

Summer instrument rentals will be processed following this inventory; if your child is interested in renting an instrument for summer, please contact Mr. Willms before June 19, 2026.

Grade 9 Farewell

We are hosting our grade 9 farewell on June 24. The ceremony will run from 6:30-8:00pm followed by snacks and other activities for the students ending at 9:30pm. Students should arrive at 6:00pm for instructions, photos, and procession organization. Doors will be open at 6:00pm for families to find seats in the gymnasium.

Learning Commons

Book exchange is now closed for the remainder of the school year. Please ensure that all library books have been returned as they are all due. Grade 6 & 7 novel study books must be brought back and housed in the classroom.  Any students with books still outstanding will be issued invoices for the replacement cost of the books, with fees posted on their PowerSchool account.  Students can see Ms. L with any questions or concerns.

Next Year Information

Back to School Information has been updated on the school website. Please visit our website for more information including suggested school supplies for students in grades 7-9. Students in grade 6 are provided with all necessary materials throughout the year, and a $40 fee is charged for these supplies.

Class Size Reduction Grant

We are pleased to inform you that our school has been allocated two (2) additional teaching positions for the 2026–27 school year through the Government of Alberta’s Class Size Reduction Grant.

This grant funds teaching positions that support improved learning conditions in kindergarten to Grade 9 classrooms and is intended to help reduce class sizes in core subject areas (English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies), with priority given to schools experiencing the greatest class size pressures.

This decision was made using system-wide data that considers: the number of classes exceeding provincial class size benchmarks, projected enrolment and class organization and school programming and grade configuration.
Our school has added an additional homeroom at grade six and nine, the two grade levels with the highest class sizes.

Our goal in using this funding is to ensure students benefit from increased teacher attention, improved classroom learning environments, and greater support for diverse learning needs.
