Weekly Message - June 1-5

Only four more weeks until the end of the school year! June promises to be a busy month with field trips to Kananaskis Country, the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller, along with a grade 8 trip paddling down the Bow River for Riverwatch. We also have several extra-curricular sporting activities this week including Flag Football on Friday and a track meet the following Monday.

Our Band Concert is this Wednesday, and we are really excited about the event; it’s an outdoor concert and we have food trucks coming to add to the festivities.

In academics, Provincial Achievement Tests continue with a grade 6 English Language Arts and Literature test on June 4; testing will continue with tests for grade 6 and 9 scheduled each week, ending on June 23. Rounding out the year, we will have our Grade 9 Farewell on the evening of June 24.

Spring Music Concert – Wednesday, June 3

Join us for our Spring Music Concert on Wednesday, June 3, at Captain Nichola Goddard School! Weather permitting, we’re excited to host this event outdoors on the compound behind the school.

We’ll have some chairs available, but families are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and outdoor chairs to enjoy an evening of music under the sky. It’s a relaxed, festival-style atmosphere—perfect for celebrating the talents of our musicians!

The concert will feature performances by our Junior Band, Senior Band, Jazz Band, and Strings Club, with a special farewell performance from our Grade 9 students.

  • Performers will be staying after school for rehearsals and set up.
  • The concert will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Come hungry and enjoy some delicious local eats while you listen! To make the evening even better, we’ll have food trucks on site.

Food trucks will be ready to serve starting at 4:30 so performers can purchase prior to the concert.

We can’t wait to see you there for this celebration of music, community, and the arrival of spring at CNG!

Grade 9 Farewell – Wednesday, June 24

We’re excited to be preparing for our annual Grade 9 Farewell Celebration, a special evening to honour our students as they wrap up their time at Captain Nichola Goddard School.

The evening celebration will take place on Wednesday, June 24. A letter with initial details was sent home with students, and more information—including the schedule of events—will be shared with families in mid-June.

We’re looking forward to creating a memorable send-off for our amazing Grade 9s!

Track & Field Meet – Monday, June 8

The divisional track meet is coming up on Monday, June 8.  Athletes must meet us at the Foothills Athletic park between 8:00am and 8:30am to check in for the day.  All track athletes MUST join the Track Team google classroom.  They will receive competition day info on Sunday evening/Monday morning to confirm whether or not the track meet is running.  There is no other way for our coaches to communicate with them effectively.  Training schedules, the order of events at the meet and other important information will also be found there.

The meet will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will take place outdoors. Athletes need to come prepared for a full day outside. This includes:

  • Athletic wear (including a Phoenix shirt so students can be easily identified)
  • Proper running shoes
  • Food for the entire day
  • Plenty of water
  • Warm clothes and layers
  • Sun/rain protection (hat, sunscreen, rain gear)
  • Bug spray

Optional items students may want to bring:

  • A blanket or mat for sitting in the stands
  • A hat
  • A book, cards, or something quiet to do between events

Parents are welcome to come watch.  If a family chooses to take their child home after their events are complete, students must be checked out with a CNG teacher at the track. All athletes must be picked up from the meet—there is no return bus to the school.

The Track & Field fee is available on your MyCBE account and must be paid before the meet. Students may also pay in cash at the office.

Athletes can wear any CNG gear to compete. Optional Track & Field t-shirts are also available for purchase from the PE office for $15.

CNG Sports Day

As we roll into June, we’ll kick off our final month of school with our annual Sports Day on June 5th . It’s an awesome day of fun and community building with all 1000+ Phoenix fans rotating through stations for the morning where classes will play different games and sports.  Students need to dress in comfy clothes with shoes that are good for being active.  Our theme is Light and Bright... think tie dye, neon, colourful monochromatic outfits... tutus, sunglasses, headbands!!!  So encourage your child to bring their game face and brightest gear for a Friday of fun!
