Weekly Message - October 5-9
Happy first weekend of October! Much has happened over September and into October including the record-breaking Terry Fox Fundraiser and the Cross-Country Running season coming to an end. Basketball and soccer seasons are underway, and our teams continue to represent us exceptionally well. It is always rewarding to watch students play and to invite spectators to the school to watch the competition. Whenever they play, our Phoenix continue to make us proud!
It’s Thanksgiving next weekend so the school will be closed for the holiday on Monday, October 12. Classes will resume on Tuesday, October 13.
CNGS Celebrated by CBE
Our amazing students' efforts to raise funds for cancer research were highlighted by CBE on their social media feed. Here's a link to the story posted on Instagram.
Reminder - Automated Absence Reporting
We have an automated process for reporting absent students with automatic emails to parents. Teachers record attendance at the beginning of each period and any recorded absence not excused by a parent phone call will be reported to parents using the email account on file. A summary of unexcused absences and/or late arrivals to class will be sent by email at the end of the morning and at the end of the afternoon. If you need to update the email account being used, please log in to MyCBE to make the necessary changes.
Student Teachers at Captain Nichola Goddard
Each year we welcome a number of student teachers into our school as they prepare for a career in teaching. This week we are welcoming a group of nine students from the University of Calgary as they begin their first round of field experience. The U of C students will be visiting and observing classes throughout the school over the next two weeks as they begin to experience life inside a school.
We will also soon be welcoming first year education students from Mount Royal University. The MRU students will be partnered with teachers and spend one morning each week until March observing and participating in the life of a middle school.
Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch – Tuesdays & Wednesdays
Fun lunches are ready to order on the Healthy Hunger website!
The School Council offers Healthy Hunger as a great fundraiser for CNGS! It is an easy way to order special lunches while helping raise money for the school. A portion of each lunch purchased is given back to the School Council for school needs. Lunches will be offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. At this time, a few vendors are confirmed and set up in Healthy Hunger. More lunches will be added to future dates as vendors are confirmed.
Please register on the Healthy Hunger website. Registering for an account will only take a few minutes and after creating your account, you can log in anytime throughout the school year to place your orders. Please note that the cut-off for orders is five days before the lunch date.
We are in need of volunteers to help make this program successful. Without parent volunteers, we might be unable to keep the program running. It is only 1 - 1 1/2 hours on a Tuesday or Wednesday and doesn't need to be every week. If you can help, please sign up here for the days you are available.
If you have any questions regarding the fun lunch program, please do not hesitate to contact Wilma Wong at cngsfunlunch@gmail.com
Thank you for your support!
Winter Activity Day – Sign-Up Coming Soon
One of the highlights of our school year is just around the corner! Winter Activity Day is coming, and students will soon receive an information sheet and sign-up letter with all the details.
Sign-ups will happen in class on the designated day for students who have their forms and payment ready. If a student is away or not quite ready to decide, no worries — we’ll have extra sign-up opportunities before and after school over the following two weeks. Everyone will have the chance to get registered and take part in this exciting day of activities!
