Weekly Message - September 14-18
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Meet the Teacher on Wednesday. It is always a wonderful opportunity to connect names with faces, discuss learning plans for the year, and build positive relationships focused on supporting students.
This week is another busy one at Captain Nichola Goddard School with cross-country races, soccer games, basketball practices, and our annual Terry Fox fundraising events.
Terry Fox Fundraising
Our school is excited for this year’s Terry Fox Fundraising Campaign in support of the Terry Fox Foundation and cancer research. We are off to an amazing start with our fundraising and have raised nearly $9000 for the Terry Fox Foundation, let’s keep it going!
Students are encouraged to contribute to their classroom’s fundraising total during lunch on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the school foyer, with each grade working toward winning a prize (ranging from movie afternoons and Krispy Kreme breakfasts to park trips, ice cream bars, and more!). The overall top-fundraising class will also win tickets to the Telus Be Brave Hitmen Hockey Game this winter.
Families are encouraged to make their own contributions to the Terry Fox Foundation. Your donations will be added to the overall homeroom totals. Please visit our School Fundraising Website here.
This month we kicked off some school spirit initiatives with Anything But a Water Bottle Day on Wednesday, Sept. 2, and Superhero Day on Sept. 9. Our next spirit day is happening on Wednesday, Sept. 16 with Purple & Gold Day.
Friday is our run day. Students need to come to school with proper footwear to walk or run a 4km route. Come dressed for all kinds of weather in comfy clothes. Keep your eyes peeled for our nearly 1000 Phoenix out on the pathways between 10am and noon!
Thank you for your continued support with this important fundraising initiative!
School Council & Parent Association
We have our first meeting of the 2026-27 school year this Wednesday, Sept. 16. Please join us in the Learning Commons at 6:30pm
CBE Caregiver Series
The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join a live online series on supporting child and youth well-being. The series is hosted by the Recovery Alberta Community Education Service (CES) Program in collaboration with local experts from the Calgary community.
The series provides sessions designed to provide families with knowledge, tools, and strategies to help navigate the challenges and opportunities of raising children and teens today. Further details are available on the CBE website: Child and Youth Well-Being Family and Caregiver Series.
Traffic Safety
We ask families to please use extra caution when dropping off or picking up students. For safety reasons, do not use the school parking lot for drop-offs or pick-ups.
We are noticing an increase in U-turns, jaywalking, and blocked traffic. When convenience is chosen over safety, students are placed at risk and we all share responsibility for keeping them safe.
To help reduce congestion, consider dropping your child off a short distance from the school. Doors open at 7:50am, so please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather if arriving before that time.
School Photo Day
Tuesday, September 15 is photo day. Lifetouch will be onsite to take individual student photos.
- Retake Day: October 7
Fun Lunch is back for 2026-27
Fun lunches are now open to order through the Healthy Hunger website!
The School Council is excited to continue this fundraiser, which makes it easy to order special lunches while raising money for the school. A portion of each lunch purchased comes back to the Council to support school needs. Lunches will be offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Currently, lunches are set up until November in Healthy Hunger, with more to be added as the year goes on. To participate, simply register for an account (it only takes a few minutes). Once set up, you can log in anytime throughout the year to place orders. Please note: the cut-off for orders is five days before the lunch date.
We rely on volunteers to keep this program running. Shifts are just 1–1.5 hours on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and you don’t need to commit every week. If you are able to help, please sign up for the dates you are available.
Questions? Please contact Wilma Wong at cngsfunlunch@gmail.com.
Thank you for your support!

Teacher Blogs/Online Classrooms
Teacher blogs are now live! Please take a few minutes to review the site for your child’s classes. You can find them on our school website under Teaching & Learning > Classes & Departments, or by clicking this link.
Sites and online classrooms provide updates and resources to support students if they are away due to illness. Please note that these online spaces are meant as support tools and do not replace in-person instruction.
Sports Teams
Cross-Country: Congratulations to all runners who competed at Vista Park last week! Many achieved top 10 results and personal bests, way to go, CNG!
Soccer: Good luck to our soccer teams as they kick off their seasons with away games this week. Come out to the back field to cheer on the Phoenix next week in our home openers on September XX & XX.
