Weekly Message - January 12-16

We are back into our regular school routine after winter break. Volleyball tryouts are underway, and classes and extracurricular clubs are continuing as planned.

Traffic Safety

We would like to remind parents to be careful when dropping off students in front of the school. We are seeing more illegal U-turns, jaywalking, blocked traffic, and unsafe use of the parking lot. These behaviours are especially concerning during dark winter mornings when visibility is limited.

When convenience is chosen over safety, students are put at risk. We all share responsibility for keeping students safe.

Please consider dropping your child off away from the front of the school. This helps reduce traffic and allows students to enter the building safely. School doors open at 7:50 am. If students arrive before this time, please make sure they are dressed for the cold weather.

Report Cards

Report cards will be sent home electronically and will be available for viewing on February 24. Families will be able to access their child’s report card through the Report Card tab in My CBE

While report cards are later than usual this year, the semester structure has not changed. Students will still move to their new option courses at the end of January.

Winter Concert – January 14

Our Band program is in the final stages of rehearsal for the Winter Concert on Wednesday, January 14. We are looking forward to performances by Grade 7 Band, Grade 8 Band, Grade 9 Band, Strings Ensemble, and the CNG Jazz Band.

Doors open at 5:45 pm, and the concert begins at 6:00 pm in the gym. All band students must be in their assigned warm-up spaces by 5:30 pm to be ready for the performance.

School Council Meeting

All parents are invited to attend the next School Council meeting on Wednesday, January 21, at 6:30 pm in the Learning Commons.

Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch – Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Please remember to order Fun Lunch through HealthyHunger.ca. Funds raised through Healthy Hunger help support school programs and upcoming events throughout the year.

North Trail High School

Grade 9 transition planning is underway. Counsellors from North Trail High School will visit our school on the morning of January 22 to review the registration process with students.

On January 27, Grade 9 students will visit North Trail High School for a guided tour and an overview of available option courses.

Georges P. Vanier School – Late French Immersion Open House

Georges P. Vanier School has invited families to an Open House on Wednesday, February 4, from 6:30–8:00 pm. This event is for families of current Grade 6 students who are interested in the Late French Immersion program

The evening will begin at 6:30 pm with a welcome and an overview of the school and the Late French Immersion program. Families will then have time to learn more about programming, supports, and expectations. There will also be time to ask questions and meet school administration.

We appreciate the invitation from the Vanier team and encourage interested Grade 6 families to attend.
