Weekly Message - September 15-19

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Meet the Teacher and our first School Council meeting last week. It is always a wonderful opportunity to connect names with faces, discuss learning plans for the year, and build positive relationships focused on supporting students.

This week is another busy one at Captain Nichola Goddard School with cross-country races, soccer games, basketball practices, and our annual Terry Fox fundraising events.

Terry Fox Fundraising

Our school is excited to kick off this year’s Terry Fox Fundraising Campaign in support of the Terry Fox Foundation and cancer research. We are off to an amazing start with our fundraising and have already met our goal of raising $5000 for the Terry Fox Foundation, let’s keep it going!

This past week we kicked off some school spirit initiatives for the Terry Fox Fundraising Campaign with Athlete Day on Wednesday. Our next spirit day is happening on Wednesday, Sept. 17 with Anything But a Water Bottle Day.

Students are encouraged to contribute to their classroom’s fundraising total during lunch on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the school foyer, with each grade working toward winning a prize (ranging from movie afternoons and Krispy Kreme breakfasts to park trips, ice cream bars, and more!). The overall top-fundraising class will win a field trip to the Telus Be Brave Hitmen Hockey Game this winter.

Families are encouraged to make their own contributions to the Terry Fox Foundation. Your donations will be added to the overall homeroom totals. Please visit our School Fundraising Website here.

Thank you for your continued support with this important fundraising initiative!

School Photo Day

Tuesday, September 16 is photo day. Lifetouch will be onsite to take individual student photos.

  • Retake Day: October 23

Traffic Safety

We ask families to please use extra caution when dropping off or picking up students. For safety reasons, do not use the school parking lot for drop-offs or pick-ups.

We are noticing an increase in U-turns, jaywalking, and blocked traffic. When convenience is chosen over safety, students are placed at risk — and we all share responsibility for keeping them safe.

To help reduce congestion, consider dropping your child off a short distance from the school. Doors open at 7:50am, so please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather if arriving before that time.

Fun Lunch is back for 2025-26

Fun lunches are now open to order through the Healthy Hunger website

The School Council is excited to continue this fundraiser, which makes it easy to order special lunches while raising money for the school. A portion of each lunch purchased comes back to the Council to support school needs. Lunches will be offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Currently, a few vendors are confirmed in Healthy Hunger, with more to be added as the year goes on. To participate, simply register for an account (it only takes a few minutes). Once set up, you can log in anytime throughout the year to place orders. Please note: the cut-off for orders is five days before the lunch date.

We rely on volunteers to keep this program running. Shifts are just 1–1.5 hours on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and you don’t need to commit every week. If you are able to help, please sign up for the dates you are available.

Teacher Blogs/Online Classrooms

Teacher blogs are now live! Please take a few minutes to review the blog for your child’s classes. You can find them on our school website under Teaching & Learning > Classes & Departments, or by clicking this link

Blogs and online classrooms provide updates, class and resources to support students if they are away due to illness. Please note that these online spaces are meant as support tools and do not replace in-person instruction.

Sports Teams

Cross-Country: Congratulations to all runners who competed at Annie Gale School last week! Many achieved top 10 results and personal bests, way to go, CNG!

Soccer: Good luck to our soccer teams as they kick off their seasons with away games this week. Come out to the back field to cheer on the Phoenix next week in our home openers on September 24 & 25.

Fan reminder: Please sit only on the path side of the field and at least 3 meters back from the sideline.

Go Phoenix!
