Weekly Message - September 1-5

Well, the school year is just about to start! We are so excited to meet students on Tuesday. We will be meeting students in the back field and moving into the school at 8:05am. We are planning to close out the week with an assembly to kick off the new year in a positive way to bring everyone together and celebrate. This year is going to be amazing and the positive energy in the building this week is a sign of wonderful things to come.

Extra-curricular sports are starting off right away with basketball, soccer, and cross-country running all beginning their try outs in the coming weeks.

As our school enrolment approaches 1,000 students, we are working to ease congestion and crowding in the hallways during break times. We will continue with two lunch breaks for students; students in grades 6 and 7 have lunch from 11:29am until 12:17pm Monday to Thursday followed by lunch break for grades 8 and 9 from 12:19pm to 1:07pm.

The main doors at the front of the school are the only entry point each morning for all students, and the doors open at 7:50am each day.

Healthy Hunger

We plan to offer Healthy Hunger again this year. We will be discussing how to operate this service at the school council meeting on September 10. Healthy Hunger is organized by the school council and is a great volunteer opportunity for parents who are interested in coming into school and supporting us. We would not be able to offer this service without our parents' support and are hopeful that we will continue this year.

Meet the Teacher

We will be hosting our Meet the Teacher evening on Tuesday, September 9. This is your opportunity to come to the school and get to know your child’s teachers. The following evening is our first School Council and Parent Association meeting, so we hope you will join us and learn more about how you can be involved in your school!

School Council Meetings

The Captain Nichola Goddard School Council and Parent Association will be having the first meeting of the 2025-26 school year on Wednesday, September 10. We will meet in the Learning Commons, and everyone is welcome!

We meet throughout the year on Wednesdays at 6:30pm on the following dates: Sept. 10, Oct. 15, Nov. 19, Jan. 14, Feb. 25, Apr. 15, and May 13. Dates are subject to change if a conflict with other school events arises. Please join us to learn more about the school and how you can get involved in supporting our students.

Volunteers

We welcome volunteers in the classroom, on field trips and with tasks at school.  Many of our activities or field trips would not be possible without the active participation of our volunteers.

To volunteer, you first register as a volunteer at the school office and then complete the annual CBE (Calgary Board of Education) volunteer registration form. Follow this link to complete the annual volunteer registration form and return it to the school office with photo ID.

In addition, a Police Information Check (PIC) must be completed.

PICs are valid for five years from the date of issue.

Applicants must have lived in Canada for at least a year and be a resident of Calgary with a Calgary address to use the Calgary Police Service ePIC system.

CBE, in partnership with Calgary Police Services (CPS) have implemented a solution to have the full cost of the application covered by a voucher system which is funded by Volunteer Alberta.

Voucher costs are covered for Online Applications only. If you apply in-person an application fee will apply.

CPS only sends clearance letters directly to the applicant and not to the school. Once an applicant receives their letter from CPS, online access to their clearance letter is granted for 60 days.  If the clearance letter is not printed and shared with the school during the 60-day period, you will need to reapply.

Volunteers who reside outside Calgary must obtain a PIC, including a Vulnerable Sector Check, from the RCMP or police agency in the jurisdiction where they live. The completed PIC must be submitted to the school by the volunteer.

Sports Teams

We are already jumping right into the tryouts for soccer as well as practices for cross-country running this week. Specific dates and times will be provided to students by the PE department and team coaches. Basketball tryouts will be happening next week. Future weekly messages will include specific dates and times for each team. Students wishing to try out for teams need to have their athletic form signed and handed in before attending tryouts and this form is available in the office or you will be able to print your own copy from our school website (this feature will be active later this week).
