Weekly Message - April 7-11

The signs of spring are truly upon us! The snow is melting, the days are getting longer, and with the warmer weather comes the buzz of activity around the school. With the resolution of the labour negotiations between CBE and CUPE, our badminton season is now underway, and our teams are working hard, preparing for exciting competitions with other schools. We look forward to cheering them on!

School Council – Annual General Meeting

Our Annual General Meeting for both the Captain Nichola Goddard School Council and the Captain Nichola Goddard School Parent Association will be held Apr 16, 2025 6:30 PM in the Learning Commons. All parents are members of both and are invited to attend.

There are a few positions to be filled for the 2025/2026 both the CNGS executive and the CNGSPA executive. Please consider taking on one of the following roles, as without volunteers we are unable to do the important work and fundraising that both Council and Association do to support our school community.

The school council is looking for a Vice-Chairperson to assist the upcoming elected Chairperson in all Council activities and will carry out other duties assigned by the Chair. In the event of absence of the Chair, the Vice-Chair shall fulfill the responsibilities of the Chair.

Both the Council and Parent Association are looking for secretaries. These two positions can be (and in the recent past) have been held by the same person. The role of the Secretary is to attend all General and Board meetings, keeping accurate minutes of the meetings and preparing them for distribution.

The Parent Association is looking for a Treasurer. The role of Treasurer is to attend all meetings, manage the Association’s finances, ensure accurate record-keeping, budgeting, and compliance with regulations, while also supporting fundraising and reporting on financial matters to the committee and school community.

If you want more information beyond these job summaries please feel free to email either cngcouncilchair@gmail.com or parentassoc.cngs@gmail.com.

Thank you for your time and Consideration,

April Boutin & Pat Wiebe (CNGSPA Chairperson & Outgoing CNGSC Chairperson)

Next Year Options

Starting April 14, 2025, we will have students begin to select option courses for next year. On the Complementary Courses page of our school website we have posted the list of options we are looking at offering next year along with a description of each course. Please take the time to look through this with your child(ren) this week to help them decide what options they would like for next year. The final decision on which courses are offered is based on total number of requests in order to create balanced class sizes in each option course.

Band Instrument “Petting Zoo”

On Wednesday, April 9 from 5pm-7pm the band room (room 135) will be open for a drop in. Any current grade 6 & 7 students and their parent/guardian can come to the music room to see all the band instruments available if they join band! There will be older students there to help demonstrate instruments and answer questions. Our program is growing to incorporate string orchestra instruments as well (violin, viola, cello etc.) alongside our current wind instruments. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Tonn by email: ahpalleschi@cbe.ab.ca.

Volunteer Appreciation – April 24 (8:15am – 9:30am)

Please join us for our annual Volunteer Appreciation to recognize all the wonderful contributions you have made to our school community!  We will be providing morning snacks and an opportunity to mingle in our Learning Commons.  Please RSVP by Tuesday, April 22 to captainnicholagoddard@cbe.ab.ca if you are able to join us, and if there are any food allergies we should be aware of.  Thank you for all that you do!

Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch – Tuesdays & Wednesdays

Each week, the School Council offers Healthy Hunger as an easy way to order special lunches. Please register and order on the Healthy Hunger website. This opportunity is an important fundraising activity for the school that raises over $10,000 each year on average and gives students a chance to enjoy a variety of lunch options throughout the school year.

We have a dedicated group of amazing volunteers who are committed to helping on a regular basis. Without these wonderful parent volunteers, we might be unable to keep the program running but being able to share the workload with more people would be a huge asset. If you are able to help for an hour on Tuesday or Wednesday, please sign up here. Please contact Wilma Wong at cngsfunlunch@gmail.com if you have any questions.
