Weekly Message - March 17-21
Hello everyone, and welcome to this week's update! As we approach the end of March, things are certainly busy here at Captain Nichola Goddard School. This week brings important opportunities for connection with parent-teacher conferences, a much-anticipated spring break on the horizon, and the culmination of our exciting volleyball season. Good luck to our senior boys and senior girls teams playing in the finals today, Friday, March 14.
Parent Teacher Conferences – Online Conferences
Our upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences, scheduled for Thursday, March 20th (4:00-8:00pm) and Friday, March 21st (8:00am-2:00pm), will be held online. The online booking system for these conferences is found at MyCBE. There are no classes for students this Friday.
Spring Break – Saturday, March 23-Sunday, March 30
A friendly reminder that the school will be closed for Spring Break from Saturday, March 22 until Sunday, March 30. Classes will resume on Monday, March 31.
School Council – Annual General Meeting, April 16
The AGM for our school council and parent association will be held next month on Wednesday, April 16th at 6:30pm; the meeting will be held online and a link will be sent out prior to the meeting.
The AGM is the meeting where new council members are elected. Every school faces the same challenges with recruiting council members. Our school is extremely lucky to have a dedicated group of parents who have been working hard to support the school. The council provides invaluable support to various events and activities throughout the school year. For example, weekly fun lunches wouldn’t happen without the council and volunteers organizing and serving the orders. Field trips throughout the year are supported by financial contributions to pay for busing. A variety of purchases are made to support classrooms including laptop carts, art equipment, sports equipment, and learning software subscriptions.
Each year, as students move on to high school, their parents go with them, and this year is no exception. We know that next year we will be looking for more parent support as key council members move on. The time commitment for council members is not too great; we meet eight times a year and all work is shared by a team to lighten the load.
If you are interested in supporting your child as a member of school council or parent association please reach out to Pat Wiebe, Council Chair, at cngscouncilchair@gmail.com and April Boutin, Association Chair at parentassoc.cngs@gmail.com.
Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch – Tuesdays & Wednesdays
Each week, the School Council offers Healthy Hunger as an easy way to order special lunches. Please register and order on the Healthy Hunger website. This opportunity is an important fundraising activity for the school that raises over $10,000 each year on average and gives students a chance to enjoy a variety of lunch options throughout the school year.
We have a dedicated group of amazing volunteers who are committed to helping on a regular basis. Without these wonderful parent volunteers, we might be unable to keep the program running but being able to share the workload with more people would be a huge asset. If you are able to help for an hour on Tuesday or Wednesday, please sign up here. Please contact Wilma Wong at cngsfunlunch@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Class Assignments and Requests – Online submissions
Creating balanced and supportive class groups is a priority each year to ensure every student thrives. We welcome your input in this process, so if you have a specific educational request regarding your child's class placement for next year, please submit it via our online form. While we value parent perspectives, the school retains the final decision on class assignments. We strive to maintain existing grade cohorts, particularly for transitions from grade six to seven and grade eight to nine. At times, adjustments may be necessary due to enrollment or student dynamics. Additionally, if your child will be transferring to another school for the 2025-2026 academic year, kindly notify the office at (403) 817-3300 to ensure a smooth transition.
Athletics Update
A huge congratulations to our volleyball teams this winter. With massive improvements in all 4 teams, including a couple of tournament champions, our athletes have developed as individuals and grown so much as teams!
