Only four more weeks until the end of the school year! June promises to be a busy month with field trips to the Royal Tyrell Museum and the Calgary Zoo. We also have several extra-curricular activities including Thermopylae, Flag Football, and Track & Field all taking place. Provincial Achievement Tests begin on June 12 and end on June 20. We also have our Grade 9 Farewell scheduled for June 25.

Annual CNGS Sports Day

It's that time of year again... TIGHT and BRIGHT sports day will be on Friday June 7!  We are looking forward to winding the year down with a day of sports, games, and community building.  Our theme could look like tie dye, neon, bright white, 80s inspired aerobics outfits, or anything that is brightly coloured and easy to move in. Students need to have athletic shoes on, and we strongly recommend a water bottle, snack, bug spray, sunscreen, and a sense of adventure!

Thermopylae Update!

The big race is here and our Thermopylaetes have been training hard.  Please have the forms by Monday, June 3. The race is on Tuesday June 4, 2024, at Valley Creek School. All racers need their own ride to Valley Creek School. Please be sure to coordinate rides and PLEASE BE ON TIME.

Sunscreen, a water bottle, a small snack, and a good attitude is all they’ll need for the day!

In case of rain, we will host a very condensed version of the fun, but we still encourage kids to be ready for a fun time!

Track and Field Meet

The track meet will occur on June 10. Athletes must arrive by 6:45am at CNG for attendance and then board the bus at 7:10am. We cannot wait for late athletes.  The track meet will be from 8:30am-4:30pm outside. Athletes need to have their athletic wear (including a Phoenix shirt so everyone can identify which students belong to which school) and shoes.  Students need to have food for the entire day, plenty of water, warm clothes, clothes to protect from sun/rain, sunscreen, bug spray. Optional items that students may want to bring include a blanket, hat, something to do (cards, book, something quiet and easy to work on in the stands). Parents are welcome to come watch.  There is a schedule of events attached to the letter all athletes received. If a family wants to take their child after all their events are done, we need to ensure each child is checked out with a CNG teacher in the stands. All track athletes must be picked up from the meet.

The training schedule for track is below.

Music News

Congratulations to all band students who performed in the Spring Concert & Arts Night. Our grade 7, 8, and 9 students (and dance team) played beautifully. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our students.

CBE instrument rentals are due back June 10, 2024. Please make sure to do a thorough cleaning of your instrument and case before returning it to the school. Students will also do a thorough cleaning of their mouthpieces with Sterisol spray in the music classroom in the coming days.

Any Long & McQuade or St. John’s rentals must be returned to the store by the families renting them, no later than June 30, 2024.  If you have any questions, please ask Ms. Ahenda.

Summer instrument rentals will be processed following this inventory; if your child is interested in renting an instrument for summer, please see Ms. Ahenda before June 10, 2024.

Grade 9 Farewell – June 25

We are preparing for our annual farewell celebration for our grade nine students. We have identified the evening of Tuesday, June 25, as the night for the festivities.  A letter was sent home with your student in the middle of May. More communication about the event and timing of the event will follow in mid-June.
