Weekly Message - September 21-25
Terry Fox Community Run
This week we celebrated the culmination of our Terry Fox events with our community run on Friday, September 18. We are amazed by the level of engagement shown by our school community. Each day, throughout the past few weeks, students have come to the front foyer to look at the fundraising tracker and see how their homeroom fundraising is progressing. Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we have already raised over $22,000 for cancer research. We are very proud to share that CNGS is currently ranked as the third highest fundraising school in Alberta and sixth in Canada! This is an incredible accomplishment, and we are grateful for the support of our families and students in carrying on Terry’s legacy.
Families are encouraged to make their own contributions to the Terry Fox Foundation. Your donations will be added to the overall homeroom totals. Please visit our School Fundraising Website here.
A Visit from Fred Fox
This Monday, September 21, our students will have the privilege of hearing from Fred Fox, brother of Terry Fox. Fred’s visit is the result of our outstanding fundraising for cancer research, and we are very excited to welcome Fred to our school.
No School September 25 & 30
Please note that there is no school for students on Friday, September 25 and also on Wednesday, September 30.
- Friday, September 25 is a non-instructional day.
- Wednesday, September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Regular classes are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday during the week of Sept. 28-Oct. 2.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day Event
Captain Nichola Goddard School will mark Orange Shirt Day next week through some key learning opportunities. As a school community, we acknowledge and support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action, and we commit to connecting Indigenous perspectives in all areas of learning to build understanding, empathy and mutual respect. Students learn this through land-based learning and exploring what it means to be Treaty people.
We are encouraging students to mark this important work by wearing orange shirts on Friday, Oct. 2nd. We are committed to building a community where each student feels safe, welcome, valued, respected, and cared for every day. More information on Orange Shirt Day can be found here: www.orangeshirtday.org
Fun Lunch 2026-27
Fun lunches are now open to order through the Healthy Hunger website!
The School Council is excited to continue this fundraiser, which makes it easy to order special lunches while raising money for the school. A portion of each lunch purchased comes back to the Council to support school needs. Lunch will be offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Currently, lunches are set up until November in Healthy Hunger, with more to be added as the year goes on. To participate simply register for an account (it only takes a few minutes). Once set up, you can log in anytime throughout the year to place orders. Please note: the cut-off for orders is five days before the lunch date.
We rely on volunteers to keep this program running. Shifts are just 1–1.5 hours on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and you don’t need to commit every week. If you are able to help, please sign up for the dates you are available.
