Weekly Message - Feb 5-9 | Report Cards, Alberta Education Survey (gr 7), 2024-25 Calendar, High School Transfer Process

Report Card – Absence Clarification

You may have noticed that absences on the report card seem quite high, but we would like to clarify what information is being reported. We record attendance for each class period during a day so while a student may be absent for 1 school day, this will show as 7 absences because attendance is taken up to 7 times that day. For high absence rates, the school will be in contact with families to plan for attendance improvement

Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch – Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Each week, the School Council offers Healthy Hunger as an easy way to order special lunches. Please register and order on the Healthy Hunger website. This opportunity is an important fundraising activity for the school and gives students a chance to enjoy a variety of lunch options throughout the school year.

Alberta Education Assurance Survey – Gr. 7 Families

Each year Alberta Education surveys students, their parents, and all teachers on behalf of schools and school authorities to gather important information on what is working well and where there is room for improvement. The survey asks students in Grades 4, 7 and 10 and their parents about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in school. This year’s survey is online and is open through March 2024.

Parents/guardians are issued a single-use Random Access Code (RAC) from Alberta Education that was mailed through Canada Post in late January.

Parents with more than one student in the relevant survey grades will receive a separate package and RAC for each child. Upon receiving your RAC, please visit https://public.education.alber... to complete the survey by March 1, 2024.

School Calendar for 2024-25 is now available

The 2024-25 school calendar has been finalized and posted.

The first day of school for students is Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024, and the calendar includes a minimum of 181 instructional days and 10 system-wide days for schools to schedule parent-teacher conferences, professional development, and other organizational days.

Please visit the system calendar page for more information.

High School Transfer Process

The high school transfer process is now open for grade nine families considering programs or courses not offered at the designated high school. Information about the process along with timelines can be found on the CBE website

Phoenix Fan Policy

Reminder to all our CNG fans that we need to be positive representatives of our school at games.  Cheering for our teams shows support and excellent school community.  It is not acceptable to ever cheer against the visiting team or make negative comments about them, as this displays poor character and unsportsmanlike behavior.  All the athletes competing are students doing their best to represent their school and making others feel unwelcome will not be tolerated.  Please also be considerate of the families that have come to watch and how your actions and words are affecting people who don’t necessarily know you.

Like CNG, other schools have visiting fan policies.  No one should be travelling to another school to watch unless they have an adult with them the entire time.  Our athletes sign paperwork that allows them to be there with their coach, but other CNG students cannot be unsupervised at other schools.
