Weekly Message - Oct 2-6 | Basketball Season, Healthy Hunger, Noon Supervision

It is turning out to be such a beautiful autumn; the changing colours of the leaves are amazing and the warm weather is so wonderful. We have five days of classes this week and then a three-day weekend with Monday off for Thanksgiving.

The first month of school has ended, and things are well under way with extra-curricular activities. Our sports teams have had a great start to their seasons, and we are so proud of each of our athletes. Our soccer players and cross-country runners have earned the praise of parents from other schools for their exceptional behaviour. We are extremely fortunate to have such amazing students at Captain Nichola Goddard and are looking forward to continuing exemplary representation during the basketball season.

Basketball games are starting this week so it is timely to share a reminder of our fan expectations for the season: home games are open to students and parents of Captain Nichola Goddard, visiting fans must be accompanied by an adult and must remain with that adult. CNGS students are asked to leave the school whenever CNGS is not playing, allowing visiting spectators to watch their teams. Also, CNGS students are expected to act as gracious hosts and give up their seats for our school's guests.

CNGS students are only allowed to attend away games with a supervising adult.

Noon Supervision

If your child is in Grade 6 and stays at school for lunch, you must register them for noon supervision. Online registration is available at MyCBE / PowerSchool Portal. If you do not plan on regular use of lunchroom services, there are drop-in fees of $5/day charged when a student who is not registered for the full year program chooses to stay for lunch.

Cross Country 2023 Season

Coaches Hunter, Legere, Meltzer, Miller, and Osicki would like to congratulate and thank all the runners and their supporters for another successful season! After ten practices, three races with 35 other schools across North Calgary, and a team of over 50 Phoenix athletes, the CNGS Cross Country team finished 3rd overall. Congratulations runners!

A special shout out to our Senior Boys and Senior Girls teams who had remarkable individual and team finishes in their final year of Cross Country at CNGS – what an EPIC legacy to leave in your final year. Also, congratulations to our Intermediate Girls team who finished 3rd overall for the season. Thanks again to all the parents and supporters who encouraged our runners, drove around the city, and put their hands together for these stellar athletes. We couldn’t have done it without you! Keep those feet pounding the pavement and see you next season.

Any runners or families wishing to continue trail running throughout the year can check out the Calgary Roadrunners Cross Country.
