Weekly Message - Oct 23-27 | Halloween Dance, Remembrance Day, Photo Retakes
It was another busy week around the school as our soccer season wound down. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams played hard but came up short in their semi-final games. A big thanks to the coaches who guided our athletes through a fantastic season and the parents and students who came out to cheer the teams on.
Halloween Costumes
We encourage students to dress up, join in the fun, and enjoy the day on Oct. 31. There are a few expectations that must be met by those who choose to participate: students cannot wear full face masks that hide their identity and costumes cannot include weapons.
Halloween Dance Party and Haunted House brought to you by Grade 9 Leadership Students
Who – All CNGS spooky staff and students are invited *Be warned – the haunted house is scary and there will be lots of flashing lights, loud music, and scary features.
What – Dance with DJ Dan in the Main Gym (send song requests via QR codes around the school); optional Haunted House starting in the hallway past the staff room, through the aux gym and into the main gym; photo booth run by Gr 9 Design class; and Snack Attack Shack open for treats during the event (cash only)
When – Friday, Oct. 27th from 2 to 4pm @ CNGS
Where – Entry at Main Doors at 2pm. Students must leave at dismissal and return for the event. Tickets – $3 in advance (available in the main foyer from Mon-Thurs during lunch) OR $4 at the door
*Actual tickets will be printed for students who purchase and will be distributed on Friday before dismissal by Leadership students. If students forget/lose their ticket, they will need to wait in a line to be checked in from our tracking list.
Why – Fun community event to build the spooky spirit and also raise money for our Business Leadership initiatives
What to wear/bring – Remember your TICKET! Bring cash if you want to purchase any treats. Feel free to dress up in a Halloween costume or wear comfortable casual clothes (not a formal dance). Must be school appropriate costumes (no full face masks or weapons, culturally aware choices).
Haunted House Rules
Only 1 entry per student (will be marked on hand)
Participate in groups of 3 or 4
Optional participation - just dance if you'd like
Expect lineups! Students can choose to enter the dance first then line up for the HH or vice versa

Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day Assemblies will be held on Wednesday, November 8 and visitors are welcome to join us. We will be holding two assemblies to include all our students. Casino Fundraiser Volunteers
The Casino is coming soon, and the School Council is still seeking volunteers to help with the casino on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. We are short of a few volunteers. If you can volunteer your time, please consider signing up for one of the remaining positions. We need 6 more people to help on Tuesday, November 28: 2 cashiers (6:30pm-3:30am) and 4 Count room staff (11:00pm-3:30am). If you are able to help fill one of these important roles, please indicate your availability at this link to sign up.
Grade 6 vaccinations
This is a reminder that the school vaccination team from Alberta Health Services will be attending the school on October 24, 2023, for immunizations. They will be providing the grade 6 students with immunizations that have returned signed consents.
The AHS team will not be offering Covid and/or Flu vaccines in the school; please contact 811 to book Covid and/or flu vaccines.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact our school nurse, Natasha, at 403-944-7531.
Pink Shirt Day T-shirts
Pink shirt day is February 28, 2024. This year the School Council is planning to sell shirts that will feature a student design. The theme for the design is ‘Be Kind’
Students are encouraged to submit their design ideas to the school office by Friday, October 27 so that we can design the shirt, determine selling price and take orders by late November
Photo Retake Day
Picture retake day and class photos will take place this week on Thursday, October 26th in the morning.
Grade 9 Sailing Trip – Expression of Interest
Our school is exploring the option of offering a sailing trip for Grade 9 students to in May 2024.
We are currently looking for feedback from students and families to gauge the level of interest that we have in providing this opportunity.
Operated by SEA Programs, student participants can expect to be engaged in a wide variety of rich learning experiences while sailing on the Salish Sea off the coast of Vancouver Island.
Grade 9 parents can expect to receive an email survey this week where you can express your level interest in having your student participate in this 5-day learning opportunity.
