Weekly Message - Sept. 18-22 | Photo Day, Meet The Teacher, Sports

Our annual Terry Fox Run was a huge success. It was so great to see all our students participating in both the run and the fundraising events. The staff played a big role in motivating the kids by volunteering for all sorts of rewards. Awesome prizes like soccer goalie gloves, pizza parties, a shopping spree, Stampeders tickets and much more were gifted to our fundraising students!  Kids had a blast watching the staff engage in all sorts of craziness in the name of fundraising. All told, our school was able to raise over $3000 for the Terry Fox Foundation and cancer research. We were blown away by the fundraising efforts of our students who continue to amaze us with their selfless drive to help others.

School Photo Day

This Tuesday, September 19, is photo day. Lifetouch will be onsite to take the photos during the day. The retake day is scheduled for October 26 for any students who miss the day.

Meet the Teacher

Our Meet the Teacher event is this Wednesday, September 20, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. It is a drop-in format where you can meet your child’s teachers, see the school and have brief conversations. If you have specific questions regarding your child’s learning or your child has an IPP addressing their learning needs, please feel free to schedule another meeting with your teacher to discuss it in private. The office will be open for Volunteer registrations as well to process Volunteer registration forms. Parents of band students: please see the message below under Band Program for details of the band parent meeting, scheduled for 7pm in the gymnasium.

Fun Lunch is back for 2023-24

The School Council is excited to continue offering Healthy Hunger as a great fundraiser for CNGS!  It is an easy way to order special lunches while helping raise money for the school. A portion of each lunch purchased is given back to the School Council for school needs. This year, due to the new split lunchtimes, we have also had to split the Fun Lunches into two different days. Grade 8/9 will be on Tuesday, and 6/7 will be on Wednesday.
Registering for an account will only take a few minutes and after creating your account, you can log in anytime throughout the school year to place your orders.

Please register on the Healthy Hunger website. Please note that the cut-off for orders is five days before the lunch date.
We are in constant need of volunteers to help make this program successful. Without parent volunteers, we might be unable to keep the program running. It is only 1 - 1 1/2 hours on a Tuesday and doesn't need to be every Tuesday. If you can help, please sign up here for the days you are available. After the winter break, we may increase to two weekly offerings for each grade if we get enough volunteers.

If you have any questions regarding the fun lunch program, please do not hesitate to contact Nicelle DePatie at nicelle@shaw.ca

Teacher Blogs/Online Classrooms

Teacher blogs are up and running so please take some time to review the appropriate blog for your child.  To locate the blogs please go to the school website where they are located under Teaching & Learning > Classes & Departments or click onthis link. Teachers maintain an online presence to support students if they become ill and need to stay home but this is not the equivalent of online education. The online classrooms are there as a support, not a replacement for in-person instruction.

School Council and Parent Association News

The Captain Nichola Goddard School Council and Parent Association held the first meeting of the 2023-24 school year last Tuesday.  There are many exciting plans for the coming year. Please join us next month as we continue to talk about plans for the year ahead.  Our next meeting will be on October 17, and everyone is welcome.

Band Program

During Meet the Teacher night (September 20, 6:30-7:30), there will be a mandatory meeting in the gym at 7:00pm for all parents of grade 7 band students, optional for parents of students in grades 8 or 9 band. This meeting will cover important information to know about the band program, such as instrument rentals, uniforms, schedules, performances, etc. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
